Flossie’s story

🌍How it all started

In 2017, a ten-year-old Flossie Donnelly brought a bag of rubbish she had collected on a beach in Thailand to the hotel where her family was holidaying. The proprietors were uninterested.

This experience weighed heavy, but a passion was ignited. Returning home, Flossie designed a poster inviting people to join her for a clean-up at her local beach. Undeterred by very little interest she held a second beach clean. This time, the event attracted the attention of a county councilor who posted photos on social media which were picked up by local press.

Flossie’s ambition to create awareness about the impact of environmental pollution went viral, culminating in the formation of a not-for-profit charity in 2019. Speaking engagements at national and international events soon followed, along with community workshops and beach cleans nationwide to drive home the importance of safeguarding the marine environment.

“Fifty percent of the oxygen we breath comes from the ocean. This is science fact, not fiction. Flossie explains.

“Put simply, if we don’t protect the marine environment, for its own welfare, we humans will also be in a whole heap of trouble.
