Saving the Gili Turtles
Gili Islands are famous for year-round experiences with endangered Green and Hawksbill turtles. They aim to create a safe haven for turtle nests that currently are under threat from poaching, trampling, storm surges and pollution, with a simple hatchery on the beach for protected incubation before immediate release to the ocean. Educating, retraining & recruiting poachers to become Turtle Rangers to track down and relocate eggs will provide a sustainable salary and boost eco-tourism in the Gilis.
Tackling the Citarum River
The Bening Sanguling Foundation is an eco school on the banks of the Citarum River in Indonesia that run a scheme wherby local fishermen can pay for the education of their children at the school with the plastic they collect from the river. They have been desperately struggling due the Coronavirus which has left them with very little resources to run the school or clean the river. They need more boats to clean the Citarum River (Plastic River) as it is yet again strangled in plastic pollution. In 2020, we were delighted to help them by funding two boats. We also have exciting plans for next year to work with this school.
